# Pinako

> Pinako is a Chromium browser extension plus a web portal at pinako.pro plus an optional desktop AI Bridge. It organizes the user's entire browsing context (open tabs, closed-but-saved "ghost" tabs, windows, libraries, notes, bookmarks) into a hierarchical tree they can navigate, search, annotate, and share.

Pinako runs as a standalone popup window (side-panel mode planned). Built in vanilla JavaScript (~36K lines), no framework. Live on the Chrome Web Store; Safari and Firefox versions coming. The free tier covers local tree management, ghost tabs, unlimited libraries, notes, snapshots, and themes. Paid tiers add cloud sync, the web portal, library sharing and real-time collaboration, AI semantic search, and the AI Bridge MCP integration for desktop AI assistants.

## Core features

- **Hierarchical tree** of all tabs, windows, and ghost tabs. Drag-and-drop placement at any depth, across two or three trees simultaneously. Functional with tens of thousands of nodes.
- **Ghost tabs**: tabs the user closes via Pinako's X button are preserved in the tree (dimmed, no memory cost) and reopen on double-click. Tabs closed in the browser are deleted from the tree (intentional distinction).
- **Three node types**: Window Groups (collapsible categories, main-tree only, nestable, color-tintable), Windows (live or ghost), Tabs (live or ghost). Folder nodes (libraries and bookmarks only) flexibly mix tabs, windows, folders, and groups at any depth.
- **Libraries**: persistent named collections of windows, tabs, and notes, independent of live browsing. Shareable as public web pages or invite-only. Private read invites at Pro tier; private edit invites and real-time collaboration at Pro+.
- **Library Groups**: organizational layer above libraries with their own notes.
- **Notes**: rich-text Tiptap documents attached to a tree (main tree or any library), with multimedia embeds (images, video, audio) at Pro+.
- **Memos** (per-node plain text up to 2,500 chars) and **Tags** (per-node string labels): both searchable.
- **Bookmarks panel**: browser bookmark collection rendered as a fully interactive Pinako tree, with bidirectional sync to the native bookmark manager and AI semantic search across decades-old collections.
- **Smart Session Restore**: rebuilds tree positions on browser launch. Tabs reopen exactly where they were, connected to their stored ghost siblings (unlike the browser's disconnected-windows native restore).
- **Home Tabs and Home Tab Sets**: designate tabs as session-starters; create named context bundles (Work, Leisure, School, Project X) to switch focus with one click.
- **Cloud sync**: 500ms debounced writes to Supabase (uniform across all paid tiers), version + device-ID conflict resolution, real-time cross-device updates.
- **Web portal at pinako.pro/portal**: read-only main tree, full library editing, Device Selector to view any synced device.
- **Backups**: local (IndexedDB snapshots, JSON, HTML), cloud (Pinako Cloud, Google Drive, Dropbox), and blockchain (Filecoin, Arweave, Storj) at Pro+.
- **Universal import** from Session Buddy, Toby, Workona, Tabs Outliner, BrainTool, Link Map, TabXpert, OneTab, plus generic JSON / HTML / plain-text fallback. Preserves custom tab names, pinned markers, timestamps, descriptions, collapse states, and to-do markers (converted to checklists).
- **Customization**: light/dark toggle, theme gallery, full color customizer with live preview, every keyboard shortcut rebindable.
- **Mobile sessions**: tabs from synced phones and tablets viewable in the tree, draggable into desktop libraries or the main tree.

## AI integrations

- **AI Semantic Search** (Pro tier and up): natural-language queries over tree metadata, e.g. "that article about AI" or "tabs I opened last Tuesday" or "the PDF about taxes". Provider: xAI Grok via Supabase Edge Function. Credit allocation by tier: 150 / 300 / 750 / 1,800 per month for Pro / Pro+ / Premium / Enterprise.
- **AI Chat Panel** (Pro tier and up, live): a chat window built into the extension popup. Ask the Librarian about your data, or have it edit and reorganize almost anything (tabs, windows, libraries, notes, tags, memos, colors, and browser bookmarks). Runs on Pinako's built-in AI (billed against the credit pool) or a bring-your-own model (Anthropic, OpenAI-compatible, Google Gemini, OpenRouter).
- **Pinako AI Bridge (MCP)** (Pro tier and up, live): desktop installer (Windows .exe, Linux/macOS CLI) at pinako.pro/downloads. Auto-configures Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT-Codex, Cursor, VS Code (Copilot agent mode), Antigravity, Grok Build, Kimi Code, OpenClaw, Hermes, Cline, Zoo Code, and any HTTP MCP client at `localhost:37421/mcp`; legacy Windsurf, Roo Code, Continue.dev, and Gemini CLI installs are also configured when present. Full read-and-write toolset: read the tree, libraries, notes, and browser bookmarks, and reorganize them (move and nest tabs, create libraries, groups, and folders, edit titles, tags, memos, colors, and notes, find and remove duplicates, apply batched edits as one undoable step). Runs on the client's own AI subscription, not Pinako credits. Data stays local.
- **Coming soon**: WebMCP (`navigator.modelContext`), letting in-browser AI agents call Pinako tools directly with no setup.

## Collaborative workspaces (Pro+)

- Real-time co-editing of library tree and notes.
- Live multicolor cursors, text carets, and selections labeled by collaborator name.
- **Edit Log**: searchable timeline of every change with text-level diffs inside notes. Real-time delivery, 90-day retention, infinite scroll.
- Collaborator caps: 5 (Pro+), 20 (Premium), 50 (Enterprise).
